We shot more weddings in the fall this year than ever before. September-November took us far and wide across the Carolinas, but no wedding was closer to our home in Rock Hill than Dana and Mike’s. We really clicked with Dana and Mike when we met up at a Starbucks south of the city. I knew they would be a fun couple, when Dana picked up my iPhone and started looking something up, thinking it was Mike’s. I didn’t say anything, but Mike totally called me out on it and we all had a good laugh. It was like someone asking if your ice cream cone was good and then taking a lick to see if they agreed with your assessment. Mike noted that when I didn’t say anything, it was as though Dana had thoroughly psyched me out with some sort of covert intimidation tactic. But really I was just being polite! Anyways, this couple was married on Lake Wylie at the River Hills golf course/country club. The weather we perfect and the sun was great for a late afternoon ceremony in front of the water. The wedding party was pretty fun. The guys were singing Wang Chung 80s songs during their photo shoot and the girls were spread out watching football in their suite in Ayrsley Place. We appreciated that this couple really appreciated music. The chose a band called The Design that Dana used to book when she was in college at UNC Wilmington. This was actually their very last gig as a wedding band singing covers. They are now pursuing their own original music. The lead singer, Kat had a ton of energy and kept everyone on the dance floor for hours with Bon Jovi, Queen and Otis Redding’s best. We really enjoyed working with Dana and Mike and especially Dana’s mom, Helena who spent extra time in correspondence with us making sure all our logistical questions were answered. Jim Schmid of Jim Schmid Photography was a breeze to work with. He was considerate and communicated kindly with us discussing sight lines and shooting strategies for the ceremony and departure.
